Greetings Family & Friends,

On behalf of the family of Courtney Elizabeth McCord, we would like to invite you to share in our remarkable news! On May 6, 2016, we founded the Courtney E. McCord Foundation, and were officially recognized a public charity with tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the United States Internal Revenue Code on June 2, 2016. We believe that this initiative will allow us to perpetuate the radiant legacy which is our beloved, as well as carryout Courtney’s mission in supporting others through education.

As you know, education was a tremendous passion of Courtney’s. At a very early age, Courtney answered life’s calling for teaching and supporting youth in reaching their maximum scholastic potential. Throughout Courtney’s tenure at Stephenson High School, Alcorn State University, and Central Michigan University, where she obtained a Master’s in Public Administration with an overall GPA of 3.83, she became fully equipped with the tools and resources required to make a significant impact in the educational realm. Upon graduating, Courtney joined Teach for America to further execute her calling as an educator, and later relocated to Birmingham, Alabama, where she accepted a position with Bessemer City High School.

In highlighting Courtney’s many accolades, including the Dean’s List, Phi Gamma Mu Honors Society, and acceptance into the Congressional Award Internship Program in Washington, D.C., we would be remiss if we did not acknowledge support channels that made it all possible. The financial support received through the Ronald E. McNair Scholarship, ASU Foundation Scholarship, and similar initiatives used to nourish and support both the student and institutions, each contributed significantly to Courtney’s successful career. We, at the Courtney E. McCord Foundation, would like to pay it forward by raising funds to be distributed to Courtney’s several alma maters.

We are asking our family and friends to support us in our fundraising efforts to magnify the exquisite legacy that Courtney left behind. Courtney’s passion to inspire, and instill in youth of all ages the importance of hard work and higher education to reach their full potential, and achieve dreams, is one that is deserving of prolongation. Your contributions will allow us to give back to the community that made it possible for Courtney to thrive, and provide financial support for student scholarships, and other programming initiatives. Contributions donated to the Courtney E. McCord Foundation are fully tax-deductible.

If you are able to give, donations can be made by check, money order, or Paypal to the Courtney E. McCord Foundation. In addition, we would also appreciate your support in sharing our news with friends and other members of your community.

Let’s keep Courtney’s legacy alive!

Sincerely yours,

Caletha McCord-Cotten
